Audio

Below I've posted some examples of the audiobook learning packages I use in classes. I will add a few more examples over time, but to get a complete set of the kinds of instructional materials presented below you'd have to enroll for the course itself.

Self-Regulation Audiobook

This package of materials includes a 34 minute audiobook and three PDF handouts to accompany the audio. Several presentations I've developed have many more pages of handouts to accompany the presentation, but I wanted to provide an example of a minimalist audiobook learning package. Self-regulation is a very broad and important area of research within educational psychology that integrates both cognitive and motivational aspects of learning. This presentation is aimed at first year doctoral students. This is a 24 Mb download.

Research Aloud Example

One of the skills beginning doctoral students need to develop is the ability to effectively and efficiently read original research articles. Towards that end I've developed a set of Research Alouds (borrowing from the Read Aloud approach used with emergent readers) to help guide students through a series of articles. For each class they'll read several articles, but I've chose one article from each class session that I then focus on via a research aloud.

These instructional packages include an audiobook (the chaptering feature is very important in this case) plus an extensive PDF handout. The handout shows each page of the article with highlights and call outs added. In some cases I've added special handouts to emphasize some aspect of the research design or conceptual background the authors are using. This sample research aloud package is a 39 Mb download and the audio is 52 minutes in length.
