Advancement to ST II /III

§      Authorization to enroll in Student Teaching II / III is granted only after consultation with members of the Teacher Education faculty, instructors, supervisors, and site officials from the Student Teaching I placement, and the approval of the Field Placement Director.

n     Suitability for Advancement to Student Teaching II / III is based on a student successfully meeting the following requirements:

§      Presumes prerequisites for Student Teaching I have already been met.

Ř   T.B., Certificate of Clearance

Ř   Subject Matter: All Sections of CSET passed or  Single Subject only 100% of prescribed courses waiver

n     Completion of all required courses (no “I” grades), prior to the semester of  Student Teaching II/III:

u  MULTIPLE SUBJECT: Early Literacy; C&I: Reading/Language Arts, Math/Science, Social Studies, Student Teaching I.

u  SINGLE SUBJECT: Teaching Adolescents, Academic Literacy; C&I Field of Study Course; Student Teaching I.

n     All three Student Teaching I site logs have been submitted

n     Student Teaching I –FIRST & SECOND Supervisor visit have been scheduled & completed

n     (non-Interns:) MS Student Teaching I- Mid-term & Final evaluations from Cooperating Teacher Received

n     (non-Interns:) SS: Student Teaching I Final evaluation from Cooperating Teacher Received

n     In summary, a credential candidate must demonstrate that s/he understands and can successfully assume the responsibilities required of a full-time Student Teacher, with the reasonable expectation that the University would be able to recommend the candidate for the California Preliminary Teaching Credential at the successful conclusion of Student Teaching II/III.

    Monday, April 14 – June 20 .

Ř    Requests for Authorization to enroll in student teaching seminars begin Monday, May 19 – June 20.

Ř    Do NOT request Authorization if you have not met all of the pre-requisites

 

 

Before Attempting to Register for ST II / III

n     Step 1: Go to the Teacher Education Field Placement website and follow the link to the Student Teaching II Agreement (It is a pdf. file - your computer will need Adobe Acrobat Reader). Print the form (2 pages), read it carefully, and sign it. This signed agreement should be submitted to the Teacher Ed. Offices.

n     Step 2: Beginning May 19th : Go to the Teacher Education Field Placement website index and follow the link to the applicable Request for Authorization to Register. This request can be filled out and submitted directly online.

n     A reply email will indicate when the student has been authorized.

Student Teaching II - Waiver

    It is possible to waive Student Teaching II (but not I or III)

    A petition to waive Student Teaching II cannot be submitted if the student has not satisfied all prerequisites for Student Teaching II.

    To waive Student Teaching II, you need to have completed two years of teaching as the instructor of record, in the same school, and at the “same level” (for multiple subject students) or “same subject area” (for single subject students) at the time of the waiver request.

    Students who have worked as INTERNS, teacher assistants, or resource teachers are not eligible for a waiver of Student Teaching II.

    In addition to a Petition for Waiver of Course, an official Student Teaching Waiver Portfolio needs to be completed, signed by your advisor, and submitted to the Director of Teacher Education

    Portfolio and Waiver forms must be submitted to the Director of Teacher Education no later than the April 30th

 

Student Teaching II & III

o    ST II & III: Full Semester placement

o    While the placement is approximately 18 weeks long, students need to be available for beginning-of- semester school meetings and classroom planning, and activities associated with the end of the semester. YOU SHOULD BE AVAILABLE August 18 January 16.

o    Follow the calendar of the school placement for holidays, end of the semester, etc. Remember you are only allowed 4 days absence from your school during a semester.

Student Teaching II/III – Multiple Subject

o   If Student Teaching I was done in a public school, Student Teaching II & III may be done in a private school classroom.

o   Your student teaching assignment is all day / every day, for the entire semester.

o   The school day begins 15 mins. before school and ends 15 mins. after dismissal.

Student Teaching II / III – Single Subject

o    You must teach 2 classes / day, in different subject areas/ grade levels

(eg. English 9 & 11; or World History & Government)

o    and be present for an equivalent THIRD period each day, working with extracurriculars, tutoring, or other assigned duties.

o    Once the student teaching assignment has been confirmed, a student is not to modify or change this assignment without the prior explicit permission of the Field Placement Director.

Student Teaching II & III - Process

o    Eligible MS students should begin the process of securing their spring placement

o    For SS students not continuing with their ST I placement: Consult with classmates / Dr. Dillon about available master teachers

o    You will need to observe classrooms / potential master teachers during May.

o    Deadline for placements: June 13, 2008.

Student Teaching Seminar

n     Weekly Seminar begins Monday, August 18. Yes you must attend this first meeting.

n     You must be available to work with your master teacher for set-up days & professional development, prior to the first day for students.

n     Even if a student has been waived from Student Teaching II, the student must attend all meetings of the seminar during the spring semester.

Student Teaching III - BCLAD

    To be eligible, the student must have received passing scores on all sections of the foreign language examination, or its equivalent, by the end of late registration for the semester in which the student intends to enroll.

    The student must have completed or be currently enrolled in the BCLAD Language of Emphasis courses.

n     During the nine weeks of ST III, the student must teach in a classroom setting where the BCLAD language is employed as part of the delivery of instruction.

Application for Student Teaching II & III

n     ONCE YOUR PLACEMENT has been finalized, a student should fill out the Student Teaching Application, once the placement has been arranged. Go to the website http://socrates.usfca.edu/~dillon/TEDfield  Complete the application on-line.

n     Print a copy of the completed application

n     Submit it with a current resume to Dr. Dillon

n     Deadline for this application is June 13, 2008.

n    SFUSD is accepting applications for substitute teachers from USF Teacher Ed students.

n     June 13th: Deadline for Confirming FALL ‘08 Placement (including application and resume).

n     June 20:  Last day for Fall On-line Registration – Remember you must register for at least one course by this time, in order to avoid a late fee in August

n     July 7: Online registration re-opens for ADD/DROP, for those who registered before June 20.

n     August  18th: First Student Teaching Seminar Meeting

n     Thursday, August 28th: FALL SEMESTER of ALL OTHER CLASSES begins.
